A recent project for a new customer from the machinery and plant engineering sector illustrates this impressively. The order included the development and manufacture of four high-temperature sight glasses of type 326, which were to be used for visual process observation on an existing vessel.
Challenges and Requirements
The central goal was to enable reliable process observation under extreme conditions. The existing vessel was equipped with a flange connection according to DIN EN 1092-1 Type 11 Form B1 in the nominal size DN 80, which was to serve as the interface. The specific requirements of this project were the high working temperature of +800 °C and the medium, which was hot exhaust air moving in the pressureless area.
The combination of high temperatures and specific process requirements made the selection of materials and the construction of the sight glasses a central success factor.

Our proven tank sight glass Type 326 has proven to be the ideal solution for this application. After a detailed analysis of the operating parameters by our experienced design team, the materials for flanges, sight glass plates, screws, and gaskets were specifically matched to the requirements.

Materials and Construction
The materials used and the construction of the sight glass were crucial for the project's success:
The flange was made of heat-resistant stainless steel, which retains its stability and corrosion resistance even at +800 °C. Additionally, specially manufactured screws produced by machining were used, which withstand the extreme thermal loads.
For process observation, we chose quartz glass. This material is known for its outstanding temperature resistance and can easily withstand temperatures of up to +1000 °C permanently.
A secure sealing was ensured by mica-based gaskets. This material offers both thermal stability and resistance to chemical influences.
