Product information

The flow sight glass type 622 is a compact flow sight glass with internal thread for 360° visual inspection of liquid and gaseous media in piping systems. Thanks to the transparent borosilicate glass cylinder, the fitting provides a complete surround view of the process medium and supports reliable monitoring of flow, color, turbidity and process condition.

Unlike sight glasses with flange connections, type 622 is integrated directly into the piping system via internal threads according to DIN EN ISO 228-1. This makes the fitting especially suitable for applications where a space-saving, screw-in design with full visibility of the medium is required.

Type 622 is designed for nominal pressure rating PN 16 and enables operating pressures up to a maximum of 16 barg depending on the configuration. Available nominal sizes range from NPS 3/8" to 2", covering compact connection sizes in industrial piping systems.

Material selection & options

The tube sight glass type 622 is manufactured in the standard version from stainless steel 1.4571. For less demanding applications, type 622 can optionally be supplied with housings made of P265GH. For special media, temperature or process requirements, special materials such as Hastelloy®, duplex stainless steels or other high-performance alloys are also available on request.

The transparent glass cylinder is made of borosilicate glass 3.3 according to DIN ISO 3585. It therefore enables complete 360° visual inspection of the medium and supports direct visual control of flow, color, turbidity or foam formation.

A wide range of flat gasket materials is available for sealing. These include PTFE, NBR, novaphit® MST-XP, KlingerSil® C4400 and other gasket materials for different media, temperature and pressure requirements.

For installation situations with increased mechanical risk, optional impact protection jackets are available. A protective jacket made of PETg or perforated sheet metal protects the borosilicate glass cylinder from external influences, for example when installed below walkways or in exposed plant areas.

Applications

The tube sight glass type 622 is used in piping systems where liquid or gaseous media are to be visually monitored directly using a compact threaded design.

Due to the internal thread connections, the fitting is particularly suitable for applications where a sight glass should be screwed into a pipe without a flange connection. The complete surround view through the borosilicate glass cylinder allows assessment of flow, color, turbidity, foam formation or medium condition during ongoing processes.

Typical areas of use include process engineering plants, chemical and pharmaceutical processes, food and beverage applications, water and wastewater technology, energy plants as well as general plant and apparatus engineering.

Thanks to the compact threaded design, type 622 can also be integrated where installation space is limited. The almost dead-leg-free design can be advantageous in applications with increased requirements for process hygiene.

FAQs

The glass-ring tubular sight glass type 640A is designed for visual process and flow monitoring in pipeline systems with ASME flange connections. It is suitable for liquid and gaseous media and, thanks to the transparent glass ring, provides a full 360°-view of the medium.

Compared to tubular sight glasses, e.g. type 620, the glass-ring type 640A also permits relatively high operating pressures in large nominal sizes that would not be possible with a glass cylinder.

Type 640A is installed as an intermediate-flange design between flanges according to ASME B16.5 Class 150 lbs RF. This allows the fitting to be compactly integrated into existing ASME flange connections.

Type 640A is designed for pressure class Class 150 lbs. Depending on nominal size, material and design, operating pressures of up to max. 20 barg are possible. For larger nominal sizes or different materials, the permissible operating pressure may be lower.

Type 640A is designed for flange connections according to ASME B16.5 Class 150 lbs RF. This makes the fitting suitable for pipeline systems constructed to the ASME standard.

The glass-ring tubular sight glass type 640A is available in nominal sizes NPS ½" to 20". Other sizes, overall lengths and flange standards are available on request.
