The vacuum sight glass Type 550V is a sight glass fitting designed for negative-pressure applications and visual monitoring in pipelines. It enables reliable inspection of liquid and gaseous media directly in the process and is particularly suitable for applications where, in addition to visual inspection, a high level of tightness in the vacuum range is required.
The fitting is manufactured based on DIN 11869 (formerly DIN 3237) and is designed for installation between DIN/EN flanges. The standard version is supplied with flange connections according to DIN EN 1092-1 PN 10/40. This allows the sight glass to be safely and structurally integrated into existing pipeline and plant systems.
In contrast to standard versions, Type 550V is specifically designed and tested for use under vacuum conditions. novaflon® 500 is used for sealing. This is a gasket material made of multidirectionally expanded PTFE with high chemical resistance, good mechanical stability and very good sealing properties.
The sealing system is designed for a temperature range from -60 °C to +200 °C. Its suitability for vacuum applications down to 2 mbar absolute has been verified by an independent external test laboratory. This makes the vacuum sight glass Type 550V particularly suitable for processes where operational safety and tightness under vacuum are key requirements.
The design and calculations were pre-checked by TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. This enables us to ensure maximum safety for your process.
The vacuum sight glass Type 550V is manufactured as standard from cast stainless steel 1.4408 and is therefore suitable for industrial applications exposed to corrosion.
Special versions are also available on request for applications with increased requirements for corrosion resistance and media compatibility. This allows the fitting to be specifically adapted to demanding operating conditions.
Thermally pre-stressed borosilicate glass according to DIN 7080 (MAXOS®) is used as the standard glass material.
To improve visual process monitoring, the sight glass can optionally be equipped with an LED light. LED lights with ATEX approval are also available on request for use in potentially explosive areas.
Typical applications can be found in pipeline systems in the chemical industry, petrochemical industry, industrial plant engineering and apparatus engineering. The fitting also offers a reliable solution for other process engineering applications where flow and media condition need to be monitored under vacuum conditions.
Especially in processes where, in addition to chemical resistance, safe sealing under vacuum (negative pressure) is required, the vacuum sight glass Type 550V is a suitable version.

The Type 550V vacuum sight glass is designed for the visual monitoring of liquid and gaseous media in pipework under vacuum conditions. It has a temperature range of –60°C to 200°C. It is particularly suitable for process engineering applications where, in addition to visual inspection, a high level of leak-tightness is required under vacuum conditions.
The Type 550V model is suitable for vacuum applications down to 2 mbar absolute (-0.998 bar gauge). This means the sight glass can also be used in processes where standard models reach their limits under negative pressure.
The key difference lies in the sealing system of the sight glass and the component testing carried out by an external testing laboratory – from –60°C to 200°C.
The Type 550V uses novaflon® 500, a multidirectionally expanded PTFE. This sealing material is chemically resistant, mechanically robust and designed for demanding sealing applications in vacuum environments.
The Type 550V is available in nominal diameters ranging from DN 15 to DN 200. The design is intended for PN 10 and PN 16, and can therefore be integrated into a variety of piping and system configurations.
