For welding in or on
Level indicator for working pressures up to 16 barg
Non binding • Usually a response within 24 hours
The longitudinal sight glass fitting Type 338 is a pressure-resistant version for welding into or onto vessel walls. It is suitable for safe visual inspection in pressure vessels, tanks, silos and technical systems at operating pressures of up to max. 16 barg.
With a viewing width of 50 mm, Type 338 enables reliable observation of filling levels, media movement and process conditions directly on the vessel. As a result, the fitting can be used both as a vessel sight glass and as a level indicator.
Type 338 is manufactured in lengths from 270 to 620 mm and can be adapted to different installation situations.
The longitudinal sight glass fitting Type 338 is manufactured as standard from stainless steel 1.4571. This material offers high corrosion resistance and good weldability.
Transparent borosilicate glass similar to DIN 7081 is used as the sight glass. Alternative glass versions or special designs can be configured according to the application. The sight glass plate is enclosed between gaskets and firmly bolted with the base and cover frame. This creates a robust fitting for visual inspection and level indication at operating pressures of up to 16 barg.
A wide range of flat gasket materials is available for sealing. These include PTFE, NBR, novaphit® MST-XP, KlingerSil® C4400 and other branded gaskets for different media, temperature and process requirements.
Depending on the medium and temperature load, the fitting can be equipped with additional protective components. Mica protection shields support use at high temperatures or under steam exposure, while FEP or Halar® coatings protect the borosilicate glass on the media side against aggressive chemicals and alkalis.
Typical application areas for the longitudinal sight glass fitting Type 338 include tanks, boilers, silos and vessels with operating pressures of up to 16 barg. Due to its 50 mm wide viewing opening, the fitting is particularly suitable for applications where a large viewing area directly on the vessel is required. The sight glass therefore combines the functions of process observation and visual level control.

The Type 338 vertical sight glass assembly is designed for visual inspection of tanks, vessels, boilers, equipment, and technical systems. It is suitable for applications in which fill levels, media movements, or process conditions need to be monitored.
The Type 338 is designed for a maximum operating pressure of 16 bar gauge. This makes the sight glass assembly suitable for applications requiring a pressure-resistant vertical sight glass assembly.
The Type 338 can either be welded into the tank wall or welded onto the tank wall. This allows the fitting to be positioned directly on the tank and used as a sight glass or level indicator.
The Type 338 vertical sight glass assembly offers a wide viewing width of 50 mm. This allows for a clear visual inspection of fill levels, fluid movement, and process conditions inside the pressure vessel.
Various design and protection options are available for the Type 338. FEP or Halar® coatings protect the borosilicate glass from contact with aggressive chemicals or alkalis. Virtually dead-space-free designs can reduce deposits and facilitate cleaning. Custom designs, such as adapted rear radii, are possible when special installation situations or non-standard process requirements must be accommodated.
