Mica discs for a wide range of applications

We supply you with high-quality muscovite - natural mica discs for a variety of applications. Muscovite mica is a clear transparent mineral with exceptional properties.

Mica (Phlogopite, Muscovite, Ruby) is mined and must nowadays be extracted from increasingly deeper mine shafts. The main mining areas are in India, Africa, America, and in very small quantities in Europe.

Properties of Mica Discs in Industrial Applications

Mica is an excellent splitable material that can be divided into very thin mica sheets down to the micron range. Mica is temperature resistant up to a consistently high temperature of 500°C and has a melting point of approximately 1200°C to 1300°C. In addition, mica is resistant to almost all media such as bases, lyes, or acids. Mica protective discs protect glass from high pressures, temperatures, and the associated surface erosion, thus increasing the service life or maintenance intervals of your sight glass fittings. However, mica discs also have their limits. In extreme applications with high pH values, where mica also reaches its limits, we can offer you protective discs made of FEP, PCTFE, or similar materials. Our mica discs are made from muscovite natural mica (clear quality) and have virtually no impact on the visibility of your production process. Furthermore, mica discs significantly increase the temperature resistance and lifespan of your transparent sight glasses.

Mica discs are also used in the electrical industry, in the paint industry, and in other industrial applications. However, we exclusively supply mica discs for use as glass protection or as individual discs for example in level indicators. We also want to mention that there are other types of mica such as phlogopite mica (also known as magnesium mica or amber mica). However, due to their optical properties, they are not of interest to us, just like biotite mica.

The various mica qualities and their classification into quality classes require extensive experience and are carried out according to international standards. The classification includes criteria such as color, transparency, mineral spots, air inclusions, and much more.
