Basket filters made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel 1.4539 – Customized solutions for the highest demands

In this project, we have once again demonstrated why we are considered experts in customized process solutions. For our client, we were able to design and manufacture several basket filters – also known as dirt catchers or pot dirt catchers – that meet the highest requirements for material resistance.

In the past, we have produced basket filters made of Hastelloy for the same client, a material that also offers exceptional chemical resistance. This repeated order demonstrates our client’s trust in our expertise and the quality of our solutions.

What makes this basket filter so special? 

The uniqueness of this project lay in the choice of material: Stainless steel 1.4539 (AISI 904L) was selected for its extraordinary resistance to organic and inorganic acids. While common dirt catchers are often made from stainless steel casting 1.4408, this standard solution was not sufficient for our customer due to the demanding process conditions. Through our expertise, we were able to implement the basket filters as a welding construction, allowing us to manufacture the housings and all media-contacting parts entirely from stainless steel 1.4539 – a challenge that only a few master.

Technical Highlights of the Basket Filters

Particle sizes

The filters are capable of retaining particles down to a grain size of Ø 4 mm. This hole size was specified by the customer to meet the requirements of their specific process. Of course, we also offer custom adaptations.

Nominal size and nominal pressure

The strainer basket filters were manufactured in the nominal size DN 200 and for a nominal pressure of 10 bar with connections according to DIN EN 1092-1.

Robust construction

The sieve basket is clamped purely mechanically and is designed to withstand the occurring flow and cavitation forces without any problems.

Sealing and testing procedure

For the vent and drain plugs, we rely on highly durable novaflon® 500 gaskets. All welding ends were inspected according to the highest standards through X-ray inspection (RT testing).

Standards and Regulations

Of course, our designs meet the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU as well as the AD2000 regulation.
