Large-scale process monitoring: Type 325 in DN 500
The Type 325 manhole sight glass in DN 500 provides an exceptionally large viewing area with a clear viewing diameter of 325 mm. The unobstructed view of the process facilitates inspections, improves operational safety and enables reliable monitoring of products and process operations.
Large viewing area for reliable process monitoring
Reliable visual inspection is an important factor for operational safety and product quality in industrial processes. Particularly in vessels, tanks and process equipment used in sensitive production environments, process conditions must be assessed reliably without interrupting ongoing operations.
The ACI Type 325 manhole sight glass in DN 500 enables direct visual inspection of filling levels, product movement, mixing processes, cleaning procedures and potential deposits. The combination of a generously dimensioned manhole and a large sight glass makes this design particularly suitable for demanding applications in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Designed for demanding operating conditions
The manhole sight glasses were manufactured with a nominal pressure rating of PN 6. The design permits a maximum operating pressure of 6 bar(g) at an operating temperature of 200 °C. This makes the sight glass assembly suitable for process conditions requiring mechanical stability and thermal resistance.
At the customer’s request, the product-contact surfaces were fine-turned to a surface finish of Ra 0.8 µm. This surface treatment improves cleanability and reduces the risk of product adhesion.
Materials and components
The materials and components of the sight glass assembly were selected to meet industrial requirements, hygienic process conditions and the need for reliable process observation:
Base and cover flanges
Manufactured from austenitic stainless steel 1.4571. This material offers high corrosion resistance and is suitable for numerous applications in the process industry.
Product-contact surfaces
Fine-turned to a surface finish of Ra 0.8 µm. The smooth surface improves cleanability and reduces product adhesion.
Gaskets
FDA-compliant PTFE flat gaskets ensure reliable sealing. PTFE offers high chemical resistance and is suitable for applications with stringent hygienic requirements, including those in the food industry.
Sight glass
Thermally toughened borosilicate glass plates in accordance with DIN 7080 provide stable and reliable process observation.
This project demonstrates how a large viewing area, a robust flange design, suitable material selection and a high-quality surface finish can be combined to create a practical solution for safe and reliable process observation.
