We are pleased to have been part of an innovative project in which our tubular sight glasses of the Type 620 played a key role. These were used in a pressure reactor vessel for laboratory experiments to explore new process pathways in a so-called jet loop reactor.
The aim of this experimental setup was to significantly increase the specific interfacial area between the fluid phase (consisting of an organic medium) and the gas phase (an acidic gas) in order to optimize material transport.
Our tubular sight glasses of Type 620 provided a decisive advantage: They allowed direct optical access, enabling researchers to visually assess the process and apply optical measurement methods – an essential support for the evaluation and further development of the new process route.
However, processing this alloy poses a significant challenge, as its machinability pushes even the most advanced tool technologies to their limits. However, our experience and expertise allow us to master such tasks precisely and efficiently.
The aggressive reactants in the jet loop reactor placed high demands on the materials used. Therefore, we chose the chemically highly resistant material Hastelloy® C-22 as flange material. This special alloy, known for its outstanding corrosion resistance, is typically used in extremely demanding applications, such as:
The pressure reactor vessel is designed for a working temperature of +150 °C and a working overpressure of 8 bar(g). Our tubular sight glasses of the Type 620 perfectly complemented these requirements and offered the following specifications:
To ensure maximum tightness even under the most adverse conditions, the multidirectionally expanded PTFE novaflon® 500 was used. This material offers universal media resistance and withstands most alkalis and acids across the entire pH range (pH 0–14).
Our ability to meet individual requirements is reflected in every detail of this project. With our tubular sight glasses, we provide not only a technically sophisticated solution but also support our customers in precise process analysis and optimization.
