The Type 640A glass ring sight glass is a compact wafer-style design for flange connections in accordance with ASME B16.5 Class 150 lbs RF. It provides 360° visual inspection of liquid and gaseous media directly within piping systems and is particularly suitable for plants designed according to international ASME flange standards.
The transparent glass ring provides an unobstructed all-round view of the medium. This allows filling level, flow, flow rate, color, turbidity and process condition to be visually assessed during operation. The unit is installed between two flanges to save space and can also be retrofitted into existing systems.
With an appropriate design, virtually dead-space-free integration into the pipeline is possible.
The Type 640A glass ring sight glass is manufactured from thermally toughened borosilicate glass as standard. This version is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from −200 °C to max. 280 °C.
Sealing is provided by application-specific flat gaskets positioned between the glass ring and the flange connection. The material, gasket and design should be selected according to the medium, temperature, pressure and installation conditions.
The Type 640A glass ring sight glass is used in piping systems designed according to ASME flange standards that require compact 360° visual inspection of the medium. Thanks to its short wafer-style design, the unit is particularly suitable for areas with limited installation space or for retrofitting into existing flange connections.
The transparent glass ring allows the filling level, flow, flow rate, color, turbidity, foaming and general condition of the medium to be assessed directly during operation. The glass ring sight glass can therefore be used for visual process monitoring without the need to install a longer tubular sight glass with a separate glass cylinder.
Typical applications include international plant projects, process plants with ASME flange systems, chemical processes, food and beverage applications, water and wastewater treatment, energy facilities, as well as general plant and equipment engineering.

The glass-ring tubular sight glass type 640A is designed for visual process and flow monitoring in pipeline systems with ASME flange connections. It is suitable for liquid and gaseous media and, thanks to the transparent glass ring, provides a full 360°-view of the medium.
Compared to tubular sight glasses, e.g. type 620, the glass-ring type 640A also permits relatively high operating pressures in large nominal sizes that would not be possible with a glass cylinder.
Type 640A is installed as an intermediate-flange design between flanges according to ASME B16.5 Class 150 lbs RF. This allows the fitting to be compactly integrated into existing ASME flange connections.
Type 640A is designed for pressure class Class 150 lbs. Depending on nominal size, material and design, operating pressures of up to max. 20 barg are possible. For larger nominal sizes or different materials, the permissible operating pressure may be lower.
Type 640A is designed for flange connections according to ASME B16.5 Class 150 lbs RF. This makes the fitting suitable for pipeline systems constructed to the ASME standard.
The glass-ring tubular sight glass type 640A is available in nominal sizes NPS ½" to 20". Other sizes, overall lengths and flange standards are available on request.
