For welding in or on similar to DIN 28120
For pressureless applications up to max. 0.49 barg
Non binding • Usually a response within 24 hours
The round vessel sight glass Type 317 is used for safe visual monitoring of processes in pressureless vessels, boilers, tanks and silos.
The sight glass fitting for pressureless vessels consists of round flange frames for welding in or onto the vessel and enables observation of the vessel interior as well as illumination on request.
In contrast to pressure-retaining versions, Type 317 is designed as a pure sight opening. This makes the fitting significantly lighter and flatter than comparable vessel sight glasses for pressure applications.
The round sight glass fitting PN 0 is available in nominal sizes DN 50 to DN 400 and is designed for pressureless applications up to max. 0.49 barg.
The vessel sight glass Type 317 is manufactured as standard from high-quality corrosion-resistant stainless steel 1.4571. Borosilicate glass according to DIN 7080 is used as the standard glass material. Customer-specific versions with sapphire glass or quartz glass are also possible on request.
For sealing, flat gaskets made from different materials are available. Depending on the medium, temperature and operating conditions, classic fibre gaskets as well as PTFE (Teflon®), NBR, novaphit® MST-XP, KlingerSil® C4400 and other branded gaskets can be used.
The vessel sight glass Type 317 can be supplied with various accessories and in different special versions. Available options include sight glass wipers, spray devices and LED lights for Ex and non-Ex areas. For elevated temperatures and steam, mica protection discs are also possible. For aggressive media, additional coatings such as FEP or Halar® are available.
For special requirements regarding materials, gaskets, dimensions or process conditions, customer-specific special designs, such as double glazing or cartridge heaters, can be implemented. Please contact us for further information.
Typical applications for the round pressureless vessel sight glass include applications in chemical and water technology, biogas plants as well as storage and process vessels in which media or process conditions must be reliably monitored.
Thanks to its lightweight and flat design, Type 317 is particularly suitable for applications where an economical solution for a sight opening is required without the need for a pressure-retaining design.

Type 317 is designed purely as a sight port and not as a pressure-retaining fitting. It is therefore intended for non-pressurised applications up to a maximum of 0.49 bar gauge. The vessel sight glass is thus ideally suited as a cost-effective sight port for vessels, tanks and silos.
Yes. The Type 317 round non-pressurised vessel sight glass is designed for welding in or onto the vessel and is manufactured in accordance with DIN 28120.
Depending on the design, different temperature ranges are possible: up to 280 °C with borosilicate glass to DIN 7080, up to 300 °C with an additional glow protection disc, and up to 400 °C with unhardened borosilicate glass, quartz or sapphire glass.
Type 317 is available in the nominal diameters DN 50, DN 80, DN 100, DN 125, DN 150, DN 200, DN 300 and DN 400.
FEP or Halar® coatings are particularly recommended when the sight glass requires additional protection against aggressive chemicals or alkalis.
