The Type 318V Vacuum Vessel Sight Glass is the lightweight vacuum version. The sight glass is intended for vessels, tanks and silos in which processes under vacuum up to max. -0.9 barg are to be visually monitored or where alternating overpressures of up to 2.5 barg may occur.
The sight glass fitting consists of two round stainless steel flanged frames for welding in or onto the vessel. In addition to low positive operating pressures of up to 2.5 barg, it is especially designed for safe use in vacuum applications.
Based on DIN 28120, Type 318V is designed as a lightweight and flat version for vacuum applications. This makes the fitting suitable for applications under vacuum up to max. -0.9 barg as well as for low positive operating pressures of up to 2.5 barg.
The round sight glass fitting for vacuum applications is available in nominal sizes DN 50 to DN 300.
The Type 318V vessel sight glass is manufactured as standard on the media side from corrosion-resistant stainless steel 1.4571. This provides a material that has proven itself many times in industrial practice.
Borosilicate glass according to DIN 7080 is used as standard. Customized versions of the vessel sight glass are also available on request.
For sealing the fitting, sealing rings according to DIN 11851 or O-rings specifically matched to vacuum applications are available. Depending on the medium, temperature and operating conditions, different materials such as PTFE (Teflon®), NBR, FKM, FFKM, EPDM or silicone can be used.
Typical applications for Type 318V are vacuum vessels, process vessels, tanks and silos in which media or process conditions must be observed under vacuum.
The vacuum vessel sight glass is particularly suitable for industrial applications in chemical, water, environmental and biogas technology where a lightweight sight glass fitting with a matching vacuum seal is required.
With its pressure range from vacuum up to max. -0.9 barg and low positive operating pressures up to max. 2.5 barg, Type 318V is an economical solution for applications where vacuum and low pressure requirements need to be covered in a single sight glass fitting.
The Type 318V sight glass can be equipped with suitable accessories on request. These include a wiper as well as LED lights for hazardous and non-hazardous areas.

The Type 318V is the lightweight vacuum version of the round vessel sight glasses designed in accordance with or based on DIN 28120 and is suitable for vacuum applications up to a maximum of -0.9 bar gauge as well as for low positive operating pressures up to 2.5 bar gauge. This clearly distinguishes the Type 318V from the non-pressurized Type 317, the Type 318 for low positive operating pressures, and the Type 320, which is the standard version according to DIN 28120 for higher pressure requirements.
The Type 318V is suitable for vessels, tanks, and silos where processes under vacuum or at low operating pressures need to be visually monitored. Typical applications include process vessels, vacuum vessels, and applications in the chemical, water, environmental, and biogas industries.
The 318V seal is designed for vacuum applications. Depending on the model and operating conditions, sealing rings compliant with DIN 11851 or O-rings made of various materials are used. The Type 318V is available in nominal sizes DN 50, DN 80, DN 100, DN 125, DN 150, DN 200, and DN 300. This makes the valve suitable for typical inspection ports on vessels, tanks, and silos in light vacuum and low-pressure applications.
For the 318V model, depending on the version, SGW wipers and LED lights for hazardous and non-hazardous areas, as well as custom designs, are available. Double glazing and heating elements are also available for the 318V model.
