Precise process monitoring requires a clear line of sight and the components to be seamlessly integrated into the vessel.
Especially in sensitive applications, dead spaces, product buildup, and the properties of surfaces that come into contact with the product often play an important role.
We tailor standard products specifically to meet customer-specific requirements.
A current project based on the Type 335 longitudinal tank sight glass demonstrates how a geometrically optimized design can achieve an installation with virtually no dead space.
Type 335 Tank Sight Glass as a Custom Solution
The Type 335 is an longitudinal vessel sight glass that is welded into or onto vessel walls. With a viewing width of 50 mm, it enables reliable visual monitoring of the process.
For this project, the vessel sight glass was custom-designed to match the geometry of a pressure vessel. The goal was to ensure a precise fit within the product-contacting area of the vessel.
Adaptation to the Internal Radius of the Pressure Vessel
To achieve a virtually dead-space-free installation, the sight glass was precisely adapted to the internal radius of the pressure vessel. This creates a smooth transition inside the vessel.
The geometry-optimized design offers several advantages:
- Minimization of dead spaces
- Reduction of product buildup
- Improved cleanability
- Optimized process hygiene
- Smooth transition in the product-contact area
Depending on the requirements, very low surface roughness values can also be achieved on the product-contact surfaces.
Technical Optimizations for Maximum Performance
In addition to adapting the sight glass to the vessel geometry, further design- and material-related optimizations were implemented.
Thermally tempered borosilicate glass based on DIN 7081 is used. This design is engineered for increased pressure resistance and a long service life.
In addition, a stepped glass geometry was implemented. This helps to further reduce potential dead spaces and optimize the integration of the sight glass into the vessel.
High-Quality Materials for Demanding Applications
Stainless steel 1.4404 is used for the metallic components. This material offers excellent corrosion resistance, very good hygienic properties and polishability, as well as excellent weldability.
KlingerSil® C4500 is used as the gasket material. This high-performance gasket material is pressure-resistant, dimensionally stable, creep-resistant, and asbestos-free. Its advanced fiber technology is based on carbon fibers.
Customized Sight Glass Solutions for Process Observation
This project demonstrates how a proven standard product can be transformed into a customer-specific solution through targeted modifications. The geometry-optimized Type 335 vessel sight glass enables virtually dead-space-free integration, reduces product buildup, and supports reliable process observation.
